What iPad rivals offered in the passing year and how the Tablet market changed?
The Ipad definitely takes absolute leading position in the tablet market. It’s highly advanced yet user-friendly OS, along with impressive selection of apps, games, iTunes library with music and videos, iBook content that make it doubtlessly number one. However, we witness the unveiling of new tablets able to compete with the iPad that were launched by Apple’s counterparts, including Motorola, Samsung, Vizio, Toshiba, BlackBerry Playbook and others.
Most of these non-Apple tablets are designed to run Android OS, which is considered to be one of the viable alternatives to Apple’s iOS.
Android developers
make this OS highly attractive for many hardware manufacturers, i.e. Motorola, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo and others. In this way, Samsung Galaxy Tab product range comes as a good example of successful Android Tablet. Full-packed and fast, it offers true multitasking, Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, good looks, thus being one of the Apple’s most serious competitors these days.

The 7-inch Playbook provides fairly solid and advanced features to satisfy business users through its responsive BlackBerry Tablet OS, full multitasking, excellent office apps, and Webkit browser handling Flash easily. Moreover through its BlackBerry Bridge, the Playbook is tethered to the BlackBerry handsets making it extremely convenient for their users. At the same time the lack of basic apps, like messaging and calendar, and widgets makes it less appealing to casual users.
The HP’s TouchPad is the first tablet running WebOS. However, this well-built device with impressive hardware didn’t manage to gain popularity because of WebOS still had much to catch up to the heavyweights in the field. HP’s tablets failed to offer anything new or innovative and the stagnant sales led to the great loss of the company. At any rate tablets like these are worthy of consideration as they are just getting started and provide a solid foundation for future shortcomings.
Growing tablets market is engaging a larger number of players. The iPad is still dominating in the field, overcoming Android and other rival OS tablets. However we see a steady flow of high-quality devices able to shake the prevailing iPad position. The tablets available in the market come in all sizes, price and tech options, offering the widest range of impressive alternatives.
